Sounds like a car accident was really gunfire from a reported robbery at Diva's Nails on North Highland Street in Memphis.
"All of a sudden, we heard a loud bang," explained Wesley Fargo of Extreme Tattoo. "It was like a boom."
Monday afternoon, two men with a gun entered Diva's Nails and one of them began shooting, according to Memphis Police Department. Police say the men demanded money from the cash register.
One man was hit by a bullet and was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition. Another person was thought to be shot, but according to MPD, she only had a scratch on her arm.
Right after the gun shots, Tena Wollek says she saw a woman running across Summer Avenue in tears and screaming.
"She was crying," recalled Wollek, who called 911. "Okay, pull the car over."
"She's yelling, 'guns, nails, guns,'" Wollek added.
Wollek pulled her car over and ran after the woman. She says the woman didn't speak English, but Wollek knew the woman needed someone to call 911, so she went into action.
Workers at Diva's Nails say one of the people wounded was a close family friend of the shop's owner.
"We don't look at it like a bad area like that," said Fargo. He works next door to Diva's Nails at Extreme Tattoo and says this is the first time he knows of a shop in their plaza being robbed. Fargo says that the robbery is shocking, but the shooting is even more alarming.
"There's no excuse for robbing a store like that," Fargo added. "We are sending prayer to the family."
The two suspects ran away and no arrests have been made, according to MPD. Police are looking for two men, described as 5-foot, 10-inches tall and wearing dark-colored hoodies, jeans, and blue gloves.
If you have any information, please call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
"I'm a little freaked out," Wollek commented. "It's messed up. It is."
