Pedestrian shot on Horn Lake Road - WMC Action News 5

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A woman was found lying in the turn lane of Horn Lake Road on Sunday morning near Fairway Road.

According to Memphis Police Department, the woman had been shot five times.

"And it happened this morning, right there?" asked neighbor Antonio Brown. "Wow, I had no idea."

MPD says the woman was walking on Horn Lake road when two people in a 2006 Impala pulled up next to her.

One of the people in the car exited the vehicle and demanded the woman's wallet. The woman tried to run, but the unknown person fired 6 or 7 shots at her, hitting her at least 5 times.

The unknown person then took the woman's wallet, cell phone, and money, got back into the Impala, and drove off.

The woman was taken to Regional One Medical Center in critical condition.

But this isn't the first incident of its kind this week. In fact, there have been at least a dozen shootings over the Thanksgiving holiday.

It all started Thursday night at an apartment complex in Hickory Hill where one man was killed. Then, Friday morning, four people were shot outside the Pure Passion Club.

Later Friday morning, a man was found dead outside a home on Powell Avenue.

And then Friday night, a home invasion in Cordova sent one women to the hospital and killed 26-year-old Jarmelle Jones.

All in all, three men were killed, and dozens more were injured. The youngest victim was a 15-year-old boy shot Saturday evening.

Back on Horn Lake Road, neighbors are on high alert.

"I'm kind of more aware anyway," said Brown. "I come out, look around, go around my house before I leave."

At this point, police have not made any arrests in this case or several others over the weekend.

If you have any information that could lead to an arrest, please call Crimestoppers at 901-528-CASH.
