MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC) – Memphis Light, Gas and Water crews are working to restore power to thousands of customers impacted by Monday morning's storms.

The number of customers without power as of 11:45 a.m. is 9,512. MLGW crews are on the scene at most of the outages.

As of 2:30 p.m. nearly 8,000 customers were without power.

According to MLGW, the majority of the outages are due to downed circuits. They are working on a number of overhead lines that are also down.

MLGW reminds customers to use the correct phone numbers to report issues during severe weather.

Customers should call (901) 544-6500 to report an outage. MLGW says that its outage reporting system only recognizes phone numbers tied to the customers' utility accounts. If you don't know which number that is, call (901) 544-6549 to update the number tied to your account.

If MLGW customers see emergencies such as downed lines or gas leaks, they should call (901) 528-4465.
